Este año se cumple medio siglo desde la fundación de The Kinks y como es costumbre comenzaron a circular rumores sobre una gira conmemorativa, hecho que no han negado ni confirmado Dave y Ray Davies.
Sin embargo quien sí decidió hacer algo en marco de este cumpleaños 50 fue Legacy Records, dueños de la licencia de 16 álbumes de The Kinks lanzados entre 1971 y 1986, quienes lanzarán “The Essential Kinks” la primer antología de la banda.
Esta colección de dos discos incluirá 48 temas, entre los que destacan ‘You Really Got Me’, ‘Waterloo Sunset’, ‘Strangers’, ‘Life Goes On’ y ’20th Century Man’, entre otros, además de versiones en vivo de ‘Lola’ y ‘Where Have All The Good Times Gone’.
Por si fuera poco, la recopilación incluirá notas escritas por David Bowie, de donde retomamos el siguiente fragmento:
“Nunca escuché una canción de The Kinks que no me gustara. Por supuesto, desde sus inicios ruidosos y descarados, The Kinks han llegado a significar algo del pop más perdurable de todos los tiempos. Se encuentran en el intestino de cada canción y escritor británico que les siguió y son indiscutiblemente una piedra angular de todo el pop y el rock. Me encantan, el mundo los ama.”
